Caravanning Tips
Don’t re-invent the wheel when embarking on your caravanning career. Thousands before you have been there and done that and it is both time and money saving to learn from their experiences.
For example, who would have thought that applying wax polish to the spot on your caravan where you want to place a decal BEFORE putting it on, would allow you to remove it at a later stage without removing most of the paintwork underneath. It’s a small point, but if you have a dozen decals on your caravan and need to remove them before selling, then 12 ugly splotches on your caravan represent an irritating and possibly expensive spanner in the works.
And then there are the more obvious ones that we tend to forget in the rush of our modern lives. For example, if you are a member of a caravan club (highly recommended), then make sure you have a look at what specials your club might be offering before you start planning your next trip – even if it is only a weekend away – it could not only save you some money, but might well introduce you to a caravanning experience that you might otherwise have missed.
Of course, by far the most challenging part of caravanning for new converts is the actual towing and parking of the caravan. Caravans seem to develop a mind of their own, especially when you try to reverse, so caravan driving lessons are a good place to start.
And then you can learn from the experience of thousands of caravan towing drivrers who have engaged in combat with their caravans and survived to tow another day.One such valuable tip is this – when reversing with a caravan, whichever mirror the caravan becomes more apparent in, steer into this and the caravan will correct itself.
Not difficult, not very technical, but boy can a simple tip like that get you out of a pickle – sometimes a very embarrasing pickle.
So don’t be shy to utilise the expertise of other caravanners – it will shorten the learning curve and make life a lot easier.
